The correct length of a necklace

The right necklace lengths vary from person to person, and different chain lengths are appropriate for different styles and outfits.

Most necklaces from LisM are standard lengths. If you prefer a different length than stated in a listing don't hesitate to send me a message at check out. Your contentment with your LisM jewellery is of great importance to me.

Standard women’s necklace lengths:

  • 36 cm / 14 inches: Fits most adult women like a choker.

  • 42 cm / 16 inches: Hits just above the collarbone and fits like a collar. This is the ideal length for petite frames and is one of the most common women’s necklace lengths. On a petite woman it will hit the collarbone while for plus size women it might feel more like a choker.

  • 45 cm / 18 inches: Falls right about at the collarbone and is the most popular chain length among women.

  • 50 cm / 20 inches: Falls a few inches below the collarbone, perfect for women who want some breathing room with their chain.

  • 60 cm / 24 inches: Falls below the neckline.

  • 70 cm / 27 inches: Hangs below the bust and is typically reserved for long, beaded necklaces such as pearl necklaces.

  • 90 cm / 36 inches: Hangs below the chest and are often wrapped around twice to form a double strand 45 cm necklaces.

Standard men’s necklace lengths:

  • 45 cm / 18”: Hits at the base of the neck and is best for young men and men with smaller neck sizes.

  • 50 cm / 20”: The most common length for men, falling at the collarbone. This is a good length for a men’s chain with a pendant, as the pendant will not sit too high or fall too low.

  • 60 cm / 24”: Falls just above the sternum.

  • 75 cm / 30”: Falls mid-chest and is typically used for plain chains without pendants.

  • 90 cm / 36”: Extra long and falls below the chest.
